Redbirds to host the Coughlan-Malloy Cup

NORMAL, ILL. - The Illinois State Track & Field program will be at home this Saturday, January 14th hosting the Coughlan-Malloy Cup. The Coughlan-Malloy Cup marks the last indoor meet hosted by the Redbirds this season. The action at Horton Field House will begin at 12:00 p.m. with field events followed by running events shortly after at 1:30 p.m.

For those attending the Coughlan-Malloy Cup, events will begin at 12:00 p.m. with free admission.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION

The Redbirds are set to host the men's and women's squads from Indiana State and women's team from Northern Illinois. Indiana State has had one meet so far this indoor season, where they secured 13 event wins. Northern Illinois has also only had one prior meet, where they had multiple top finishes in various events. 

LAST TIME OUT

The Redbirds had a month break since their last meet, Blue Demon Holiday Invite, where they picked up 10 meet wins. 

Hassy Fashina-Bombata broke the school indoor record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.22. Fashina-Bombata also rose her way to No. 4 all-time indoors in the 200m dash with a time of 24.47 seconds, winning the event. 

In the 300m dash, Arianna Walker picked up a win for the Redbirds with a time of 40.68. With a personal best-time of 56.20, Nnenna Okpara finished first in the 400m. Right behind her was Brimonet Buggs in second with a time of 56.67. 

Amiri Buchanan achieved a double win in shot put and weight throw for the men's field events, continuing to set the right pace for ISU's indoor season.

Following the Coughlan-Malloy Cup, the Redbirds will travel to Iowa City for the Larry Wieczorek Invite hosted by the University of Iowa, from January 20-21.
