TULSA, Okla. – Competition for Illinois State seniors Nam Pham and Arvid Hjalte came to an end on Sunday at the ITA Men's All-American Championships, as both dropped their singles matches and were eliminated from moving on in the main draw in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
"Today didn't go our way, but honestly Nam gave everything he had left and yesterday taking so much out of him, there wasn't enough left in the tank," ISU head coach Mark Klysner said. "Overall, I thought both guys played extremely well this weekend and I couldn't be happier for them and as a coach considering the level of competition we faced."
Pham, who was playing in the round of 64 after a pair of opening round victories on Saturday, ran out of gas on Sunday as he dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to LSU's Rudy Ceccon.
Illinois State is back in action for their final fall tournament in two weeks at the ITA Midwest Regional hosted by Michigan in Ann Arbor. Action begins on October 19 and runs through October 23.
