SUGAR LAND, Texas – Using a two-round 147, Avalon Woodward has led the Redbirds through the first two rounds of the Houston Christian University Husky Intercollegiate on Monday, and the 'Birds stand fourth overall of 15 teams in the field.
The Redbirds' 605 has them in fourth place overall, behind only Sam Houston State (592), ULM (599), and tournament host HCU (600). UTEP is right behind ISU with a 605, along with Charleston Southern (614), Texas A&M Corpus Christi (616), Bradley (618), Texas A&M Commerce (620), Lamar (623), UTRGV (625), Tarleton State (626), Appalachian State (629), Omaha (636), and UT Arlington (639).
Woodward's opening day of 74 and 73 (total of 147) has her tied for third individually, three strokes away from the medalist spot. Dani Grace Schrock carded rounds of 74 and 76, which ties her for 13th in the field. Michaela Kverkova's opening two round total of 154 (77, 77) sees her tied for 27th as Ali Schrock's 157 (77, 80) and Kira Wolf's 158 (74, 84) have them tied for 42nd and 45th, respectively.
Woodward, who opened the tournament on the par-five 12th hole, started her day with three birdies, three pars and a bogey over her opening seven holes, before closing her round with seven pars and four bogeys to finish with the two-over 74. Her second round had a rocky start with two pars, three birdies, and four over-par scores over the first nine holes put her two over par. After five more pars a bogey pushed her to three-over on the day, before she closed strong with two birdies over her final three holes to finish with the one-over 73.
Dani Grace Schrock opened play with five consecutive pars and had two birdies and a dozen pars to end her opening 18 holes two strokes over par. Her second round saw her card 13 consecutive pars in the middle of the round, closing the back half of her day with a four-over 76.
Kverkova had three birdies and 22 pars over her 36 holes, including two birdies over her second 18 holes, carding matching rounds of 77.
Schrock had three birdies in the opening round, and another in the second round, in addition to 19 total pars for her 13-over 157.
Wolf's opening-round 74 had three birdies and 11 pars for her opening 74 – tied for the lowest on the team – before coming back with a final round 84 to close the day 14 strokes over par.
