NORMAL, Ill. – Spring Break 2023 might be here, but Illinois State men's tennis is getting set to play three matches in five days, all of which will take place from Wilmington, N.C.
The annual spring break trip for ISU kicks off on Wednesday against host UNC Wilmington at 1:00 p.m. before the Redbirds meet up with Youngstown State Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. and wrap up their trip with a meeting against DePaul Sunday afternoon at noon.
The Redbirds have dropped three of their last five matches, including their last two matches against Summit League foe North Dakota and the Big Ten's Indiana. Against the Fighting Hawks, ISU saw both Adrian Dibildox and Emiliano Gonzales pick up wins in singles despite the home team defending home court 5-2.
Then, in the latest match for the 'Birds, it was a clean 4-0 sweep for the Hoosiers after they took the doubles point and would win in straight sets from no. 1, 3, and 4 singles to clinch the match. Â
UNC Wilmington heads into the match with a 4-5 record this spring, most recently dropping a 4-3 match to South Florida last Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Penguins of Youngstown State are 5-7 this spring, as they will look to end their own two-match losing streak as they most recently dropped a 4-3 result to Samford on March 8.
Finally, for DePaul, they see a 7-10 record this spring including a 2-2 neutral site record. DePaul was last in action on March 3 as they dropped a 4-3 result to Marquette. Â
