SEDONA, Ariz. – After a struggling first round that saw the Redbirds start the second 18 holes in 17th place, the Redbirds climbed six spots in the middle round of a three-round event and are in 11th place overall with one round to play in the 2023 Red Rocks Invitational.
The Redbirds had rounds of 311 and 296 on the day, as the 296 was the fifth best second round in the field of 20 schools. Delaware leads the field with rounds of 290 and 292 while Gonzaga (588), Grand Canyon (590), Navy (591), Fullerton (593), Weber State (594), Creighton (600), Idaho (602), tournament host Northern Arizona (602), and California Baptist (603) are just ahead of ISU in the team standings, with Wichita State (611), Eastern Washington (615), Wyoming (615), Utah Tech (616), North Dakota State (618), Southern Utah (620), Towson (622), Northern Colorado (622), and Montana (634) closing out the 20 schools in the tournament.
Avalon Woodward and Dani Grace Schrock are knotted after 36 holes each with a 149, which is tied for 21st overall in the tournament. Michaela Kverkova had rounds of 79 and 74 for a 153 to place her in a tie of 46th, while Ali Schrock's 156 (81-75) is tied for 69th. ISU's fifth golfer in each round, Kira Wolf, is tied for 95th with a 162.
Woodward opened her day with a 76, in which saw her card a pair of birdies and 10 pars for her four-over performance. She answered back with a one-over 73, as she had a birdie and 15 pars to finish five strokes over par for the 36 holes.
The youngest Schrock had a birdie and 14 pars for a three-over 75 to open her day, before answering back with a 74 which included a birdie and 14 more pars, finishing two over par.
Kverkova started the tournament with three birdies and six pars on her round, finishing with a seven-over 79, and she shot a second-round 74, as she had two birdies and a dozen pars.
The elder Schrock put together rounds of 81 and 75, the opening round saw the senior record two birdies and eight pars before coming back with three birdies and 10 more pars for the three-over 75.
Wolf had a combined three birdies and 19 pars over her two rounds to stand with a two-round 162.
