BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – For the first time in 17 days, Illinois State women's tennis is back home as they continue the 2022-23 Missouri Valley Conference season against Drake and UNI.
The 'Birds and Bulldogs square off Saturday with first serve at 2:30 p.m. while it is ISU and UNI getting things underway at 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Both matches will take place from the Evergreen Racquet Club.
The Redbirds (8-6) recently began MVC play with a road victory over the Lady Bears of Missouri State last Sunday. The Redbirds took the early advantage with a clean sweep of the doubles matches. Then, in singles, ISU clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at no. 2 by Alexandra Abyasova over Mary Houston.
Drake (8-6) visits Bloomington after getting their first MVC win of the season over UIC last Saturday. The Bulldogs won four out of their six singles matches, as three results came in straight sets. Meanwhile, in doubles, it was Drake taking two out three matches to secure the victory and end their two-match skid. Overall, when playing on the road this season, Drake is 2-5.Â
UNI (4-9-1) will make the trip to Peoria to face Bradley Saturday before making their way down to Bloomington for Sunday's matchup. The Panthers were unsuccessful in their MVC opener as they dropped a 6-1 result to the Flames of UIC last Sunday. When playing on the road this season, UNI is 2-5-1 and have lost three of their last four.
