BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Looking to remain perfect in MVC play and at home, Illinois State women's tennis is back in action as they welcome one of the three new MVC members, Murray State, to town on Thursday.
The 'Birds and Racers get things underway with first serve at 12:00 p.m. Thursday from the Evergreen Racquet Club.
The Redbirds (10-6) were at home last weekend, picking up a pair of victories over Drake and UNI to remain unblemished in MVC play this season. Against the Bulldogs on Saturday, the 'Birds got the early advantage after securing doubles wins from both their No. 2 and No. 3 pairings. Then, in singles, it was Elena Jankulovska who would clinch the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at no. 6 en route to a 5-2 team victory for ISU.
Only a day a later, the Redbirds came out stronger last Sunday as they would capture a clean sweep over UNI. After claiming wins in all three doubles matches, ISU would claim straight set victories in every singles match, with Tijana Zlatanovic officially clinching the victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win from no. 1 singles.
Murray State (8-6) has gone 2-0 so far in their first season in the Valley, picking up victories over Valparaiso and Bradley two weeks ago. With Thursday being the first MVC road match for the Racers, they will look to build upon their present 2-4 road record this spring. Murray State comes to Bloomington with wins in their last two road matches, picking up victories at Central Arkansas and North Alabama.
