CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Illinois State women's tennis team began a two-match weekend road swing on Saturday in Tennessee, as the Redbirds took on Austin Peay in non-conference action. The Govs took the early lead against the 'Birds and did not look back as they came away with a 5-2 win on their home courts.
In doubles action, the Govs took the first point of the match with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The No. 3 team of Elena Jankulovska and Nevena Kolarevic battled for a 7-5 win, but APSU took the lead headed to singles.
The Govs kept the momentum going in singles as well, with wins at the No. 1 through No. 4 spots to clinch the match. ISU picked up wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, as Silvia Pomarolli defeated APSU's Asia Fontana by a score of 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 5 spots and Jankulovska also picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win at the No. 6 spot over Austin Peay's Ayden Kujawa.
ISU is back in action tomorrow in St. Louis, when the Redbirds take on Washington University at 2 p.m.
