Labat Named MIC Gymnast of the Week For Fourth Time

NORMAL, Ill. – For the fourth time this season, senior gymnast Angelica Labat has been named the MIC Gymnast of the Week following her season-best performance in the all-around last week at Southeast Missouri State.

Labat shares the Gymnast of the Week honor with Lindsay Ockler from Southeast Missouri State and the league's other honorees for the week included Amy Foret of Centenary (Newcomer of the Week) and Nyah Reader of Southeast Missouri State (Performance of the Week).

The MIC Gymnast of the Week honor ups Labat's career total to 21 MIC weekly honors between the various categories. Labat is peaking at the right time for the Redbirds, as she set a season-best in the all-around with just two weeks remaining before the MIC Championship. 

Labat was consistent throughout her entire meet in the team's win over SEMO, posting scores of 9.825 or better on every event. That resulted in her all-around score of 39.400, which was a season high for her and the top all-around score of any MIC gymnast this season. That score was aided by a first-place finish on beam with a 9.875 and a first-place tie on vault with a 9.875. Her score of 39.400 is the third highest mark of her illustrious career at ISU, and she currently ranks No. 60 in the NCAA with a NQS of 39.070 in the all-around.

The Redbirds will wrap up the regular season on Saturday just down the road in Champaign, Illinois, against No. 22 ranked Illinois and No. 12 ranked Kentucky at 2 p.m.
