Four Redbirds Set Personal Bests at Gibson, Bryan Clay Invitationals

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Track & Field continued its time in both the Gibson Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday, as a pair of Redbirds (one at each meet) would record an ISU all-time top-10 mark.

STRONG DAY FOR 'BIRDS OUT WEST

Junior Ailey Mitchell got day two of the Bryan Clay Invitational underway for ISU, as she competed as part of the women's 10,000m field.

The Shelbyville native would not only set a new personal best time of 35:06.06, but she would also gather second place overall in the event, coming in behind Arkansas State's Sarah Trammel.

Meanwhile, in the men's 5000m, it would be Zack Loomis gaining a new personal best in the event as he finished 7th with a time of 14:28.57.

Finally, in the men's 800m, Riley Wells would finish 18th overall in a time of 1:48.48. He was joined by teammate Joe Morrison who finished in a time of 1:50.875 (67th overall).

ACTION FROM THE GIBSON INVITATIONAL

Taylor Kesner would once again be in action for the women's javelin throw, only one week after setting a new personal best in the event down in Oxford at the Joe Walker Invite.

Well, Kesner would not mess around as the sophomore would win the event with a new personal best mark of 45.97m (150-10), which is now the third-highest event mark in program history. ISU would also see Olivia Birge finish third in the event with her mark of 40.30m (132-03), a new personal best for the freshman.

In the men's 5000m, Noah Penry would finish sixth in a time of 15:20.29 while fellow Redbird Jeff Luka finished in 15:44.27 (16th overall).

For the men's hammer throw, Amiri Buchanan would go for a mark of 53.82m (176-07) in the event, finishing 12th overall. In his first time competing in the hammer throw this spring, freshman Jacob Rollins turned in a mark of 39.19m (128-07), finishing 30th overall for the event.

The women's hammer throw saw Morgan Wrublik as the highest Redbird finisher, with her mark of 48.75m (159-11) to finish 10th overall.
