Women's Golf Heads to Final Pre-Championship Tournament

RICHMOND, Ky. – Traveling to Kentucky for the Colonel Classic, the Redbirds take part in their final pre-MVC Championship tournament.

Last Time Out: The Illinois State women's golf team got a two-under final round from Kira Wolf, as the team climbed a place to finish 10th at the 2023 Red Rocks Invitational, hosted at Oakcreek Country Club. Dani Grace Schrock had the Redbirds' second-lowest score on the final day with a 74, giving her a three-round 223, good for a tie of 21st overall in the tournament, while Avalon Woodward finished a shot behind Schrock both on the day with a third-round 75, and in the tournament with a 224, placing in a tie for 24th. 

Redbird History at the Colonel Classic: The Redbirds have competed in this event one time prior, during the 1996-97 season. The tournament was also the final tournament before the upcoming MVC Championship. The 'Birds were led by Julie Orrison who finished third with a two-round 149 (+5) with Suzanne Walker (+7) and Denise Thiele (+8) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

About the Course: The University Club at Arlington comprises an 18-hole championship course, an Olympic-size swimming and diving complex, six lighted tennis courts, multiple event venues, state-of-the-art golf practice facility, and various dining facilities. The club also serves as home to the EKU Men's and Women's golf teams and the EKU Professional Golf Management Program. Additionally, The University Club at Arlington is a venue for many University conferences and events.
