ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Illinois State baseball fourth-year junior Jayson Hibbard has been named Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Hibbard shut down Missouri State in Sunday's 2-1 win with seven scoreless innings, requiring just 73 pitches and facing the minimum 21 batters.
The Kuna, Idaho native retired the first 13 Bears before the visitors got their first hit and baserunner on an infield pop-up that fell between two Redbird defenders.
Hibbard also allowed a ground ball single up the middle in the 7th inning but erased both of the singles via double plays. Hibbard's seven innings pitched were a career high.
He had two three-ball counts in the opening frame but did not have one in the remainder of the outing.
Hibbard joins Derek Salata as Redbirds to earn MVC weekly honors in 2023.
Illinois State is scheduled to play Illinois in Champaign on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. CT before heading to Western Illinois on Wednesday and Indiana State for a weekend series.
