OXFORD, Miss. – Illinois State Track and Field wrapped up competition at the Joe Walker Invite on Saturday, as the Redbirds gathered another full day of personal bests as well as had a selection of athletes etch their name in the program record book.
One of many ISU highlights on Saturday came from Hassy Fashina-Bombata who would be competing in the women's outdoor 100m hurdles. The senior would finish in second with a time of 13.41, which is a new program record and breaks the previous record time of 13.51 set by Demetria Anderson in 2018.Â
Throughout the day, ISU would also see a trio of event wins in competition including a pair of wins in the men's decathlon. First, Chase Knoblett would get the day started with a time of 15.70 in the men's decathlon 110m hurdles to win the event before it was Cade Ward running a winning time of 4:35.22 in the men's decathlon 1500m.
Finally, to end the competition, it was the women's 4x400m relay team of Fashina-Bombata, San'Toria Harris, Nnenna Okpara, and Destiny White claiming the win with a final time of 3:40.12, third fastest in program history.Â
In the men's 1500m, Andrew Englert set a new PR as he finished 5th in a time of 3:54.50. Then, Mattison Plummer added her own personal best performance as she ran a PR time of 4:39.94 in the women's 1500m, finishing 11th.
Later in the day, it was the speed of ISU which was showcased in both the men's 110m hurdles and women's 400m hurdles. First, in the men's 110m hurdles, both Dewayne Johnson (6th/14.43) and Jaden Johnson (7th/14.49) would set individual personal bests.
For the women's 400m hurdles, it was senior Kayla Perry capturing third place in the event with a time of 1:01.06, placing herself with the seventh fastest outdoor event time in program history.

The Redbirds will now shift their attention to a trip out West as ISU will compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 13-15, hosted by Azusa Pacific University. Â
