COLUMBUS, OH.--- The Redbirds began the ITA Regionals on a positive note as junior Silvia Pomarolli defeated Katya Shepard Johnson of Northwestern University by a 6-3, 6-2 mark. Pomarolli would go on to play Reagan Welch of Northern Illinois University. The 2024-25 ITA Scholar Athlete advanced to the round of 16 after besting Welch by scores of 6-1, 6-2.
Head coach Maja Kovacek was pleased with Pomarolli's performance against power-five conference competition. "I'm really happy with the way Silvia (Pomarolli) handled herself today. She was focused from the first point and did a great job with a few adjustments she needed to make," Kovacek said.

Junior Lana Caculovic will compete in tomorrow's main draw with competition beginning at 9 am. Pomarolli will return to action in the main draw against the University of Wisconsin's Tianna Rangan. All matches of the ITA Regionals will be played on the campus of Ohio State University (B1G).
