Fennell Ties Freshman School Record in Opening Day of the Clash at Boulder Creek

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Elise Fennell carded a collegiate person-best-round of 69 – tied for the lowest round in school history by a freshman – and is tied for 11th after the first of three days of the Clash at Boulder Creek.

Fennell classmate Jessica Jolly tied her career-best with a 70 and is tied for17th in the field.

The Redbirds' opening round 295 has the team in 14th place with 36 holes remaining in the tournament, while Fresno State leads with a 272. San Francisco (274), Northern Arizona (280), Drake (282), UC Riverside (284), Boise State (287), Northern Colorado (287), Washington State (288), South Dakota State (289), Tarleton State (289), UTRGV (292), CSU Bakersfield (293), and Cal State Fullerton (293) all sit directly ahead of the Redbirds, while Southern Utah (300), UTEP (300), and Incarnate Word (310) round out the 17 schools in the field.

ISU tees off alongside Cal State Fullerton and Southern Utah tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. starting on the 12th hole.

Her opening-round 69 started slowly with a bogey on her opening hole, and had six birdies overall, including a stretch of four over her final nine holes of the day to head into the clubhouse with the lowest score by a freshman – alongside current teammate Dani Grace Schrock from her freshman season, and is tied for the ninth-lowest single-round score in school history regardless of class.

Jolly, playing as an individual, opened with a par and a bogey to go to one shot over par; however, had a stellar round over her final 16 holes with three birdies and 16 pars, tying her career-low with a 70.

Lory Paradis, in her first tournament in the ISU lineup, carded a season-low 72 for an even-par opening round, in which she had a birdie, 16 pars, and a bogey to finish with the first round and is tied for 30th individually a third of the way through the tournament.

Jinyoung Yun had four birdies in her opening round of the tournament, in addition to nine pars and five over-par scores for a two-over 74 and is tied for 47th after 18 holes.

Morgan Jones and Alex Sparrow are each tied for 90th after opening round 80's, as Jones had a birdie and nine pars while Sparrow had a pair of birdies and eight pars in her round.
