CHICAGO, Ill.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team picked up four singles wins and one doubles victory on day two of the MVC Individual Championships at the XS Tennis Village in Chicago.
In singles play, Silvia Pomarolli, Lana Caculovic, Nuria Sanz and Elena Jankulovska picked up wins for the Redbirds. Caculovic advanced on an injury/def. Sanz defeated Halbersztadt in three sets in a comeback win. Jankulovska came out fast and took the first set while UIC's Brion claimed the second set 4-6. Jankulovska bounced back to take a 7-5 win to end the match in the third set.
As play shifted to doubles play the pair of Elena Jankulovska and Nuria Sanz took down Rodriguez/Liu of UIC in a 8-3 decision. Sanz and Jankulovska will look to claim the MVC doubles championship tomorrow when play continues on day three.
Head coach Maja Kovacek was pleased with the resilience the team showed on day two of the Championships "I'm really proud of the effort today across the board. Elena (Jankulovska) and Nuria (Sanz) especially played great doubles and won tough singles matches. Nuria was down 1-4 in the third set and came back to win 7-5," Kovacek said.
Tennis action will begin at 9am tomorrow for day three of the MVC Individual Championships. All Championship and third place matches will be played.

UP NEXT:
The Redbirds will face a road test as they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the ITA Regionals hosted by Ohio State University. The Regionals will begin on Oct 10 and continue until Oct.14, before ISU heads back to the "Land of Lincoln" for the EIU Panther Invitational in Charleston, Ill.
