CHICAGO, Ill.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team swept singles play as Nuria Sanz claimed the Flight Three MVC Individual Championship in a tiebreaker over Kikawa of Murray State. Sanz bested Kikawa by scores of 7-5, 7-6, (7-5).
Head coach Maja Kovacek was pleased with how the team finished day three of the MVC Individual Championships. "I'm really proud of Nuria (Sanz). She's been playing great tennis and showed so much heart and composure throughout all of her matches during this tournament." Kovacek said.
DAY THREE ACTION
In singles action, three Redbirds secured victories on the final day of competition. This included Sanz, Nicole Iosio and Elena Jankulovska. In doubles play, Elena Jankulovska and Sanz advanced to the Championship match where the pair fell to Campigotto/Alexeyeva of Murray State. A season ago, Murray State claimed the MVC Championship crown.
BACK-TO-BACK FOR SANZ
Today marked Nuria Sanz's second consecutive Missouri Valley Individual Championship. A year ago, she claimed the flight five championship bracket.

No 3 Campigotto/Alexeyeva (MUR) def. Jankulovska/Sanz (ISU) 8-6
UP NEXT:
The Redbirds will face a road test as they travel to Columbus, Ohio for the ITA Regionals hosted by Ohio State University. The Regionals will begin on Oct 10 and continue until Oct.14, before ISU heads back to the "Land of Lincoln" for the EIU Panther Invitational in Charleston, Ill.
