NORMAL, Ill. - The 2025 season officially begins on Jan. 3 at Missouri for the Illinois State Gymnastics team, however the Redbirds had an early opportunity to test their routines on Thursday, when the Redbirds made a quick trip to Champaign, Illinois, for a preseason exhibition scrimmage with the Illini.
The Redbirds showed well, as they put together a team score of 194.850 against their opponents from the Big Ten Conference. Highlights included:
- Illinois State finished first, second and in a tie for third in the all-around, with Alana Laster taking the top spot with a score of 39.150. Mya Robinson came in second with a total of 38.950, while Sara Wabi and transfer newcomer Jaly Jones each tied for third place with scores of 38.550.
- On the vault, Robinson and Jaye Mack tied for first with Illinois' Mareli Muller with a 9.800.
- Wabi won on bars with a 9.850, with Julia Heiner tying for second overall with a 9.800.
- Laster took the top spot on beam, as she tied with with Olivia Coppola of Illinois with a 9.850.
- On floor, Mack, Wabi and Laster all tied for first with matching scores of 9.850.
The season opener in Columbia, Missouri, against the Tigers is up next and will be a quad meet with the hosts, Ball State and Southeast Missouri State.
