RIVER FOREST, Ill.-- The 2024-25 season officially began for Illinois State on Friday at the River Forest Collegiate Tennis Invitational, as one Redbird advanced to the finals in singles competition and one pair qualified for the final doubles flight. Both singles and doubles championship flights will resume play tomorrow at River Forest Park and Oak Park Tennis Center.
The day began with one round of doubles play, with the Redbirds picking up a win in the No.1 Draw doubles bracket courtesy of a 6-2 decision after Tomas Valencia and Caden Scarlett defeated Jona Gitschel and Matteo Iaquinto of DePaul University. They will collide with Saul Berdullas and Sam Klein of Northern Illinois in a doubles semifinal matchup tomorrow morning.
As the action moved to singles matches, the Redbirds collected five victories in the first round to advance to the semifinals and one victory in the semifinals to advance to the championship flight. Tomas Valencia (Draw 1), Adrian Dibildox (Draw 2), Tin Ostro (Draw 3) and Caden Scarlett (Draw 4) all won their first round matches. Dibildox will compete in the No. 1 Draw Championship bracket on day two.
Action will wrap up on Saturday morning with the final two rounds of doubles play, before the final singles match of the invitational.Â
