COLUMBIA, Mo. – In a rain-shortened opening day of the Johnie Imes Invitational, the Illinois State women's golf team was led by Jinyoung Yun, who shot a two-over 74, and the Redbirds are tied for fifth place after the first day of the 36-hole tournament.
The round, which started at 8 a.m. and then paused after a handful of shots, resumed at noon. Because of the delay, the tournament was shrunk from a 54-hole event to just 36 holes – 18 on each of the tournament's two days.
Florida Gulf Coast holds the 18-hole lead with a one-under 287, with Bradley (295), Missouri (298), and Austin Peay (298) all resting ahead of the Redbird's 300 halfway through the tournament. Missouri State (301), Morehead State (305), Eastern Kentucky (306), Omaha (307), Murray State (308), Howard (310), Drake (312), and Barry (312) round out the 13 schools in the tournament.
Yun's two-over 74 saw her record 15 pars, a birdie and two over-par scores, and is tied for 14th with a round to play in the tournament.
ISU newcomers Elise Fennell and Morgan Jones are knotted at 19th place in the field, as each shot a first-round 75. Fennell had a birdie and 13 pars while Jones had 15 pars in her round.
Alex Sparrow struggled to start the round, with a double bogey, two bogeys and two pars over her first five holes; however, came back with two birdies and four pars over her next six holes, closing with a four-over 76 on the round to tie for 26th.
Jessica Jolly had two birdies and nine pars in her opening round with a seven-over 79 and is tied for 50th.
Playing as an individual, Lory Paradis carded a four-over 76, using a birdie and a dozen pars to reach her score, which puts her into a tie for 26th individually.
