NORMAL, Ill.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team was led by strong performances from Elena Jankulovska who claimed both the No. 6 singles championship and the doubles championship with Nuria Sanz. Silvia Pomarolli and Emma Lindh also advanced to the championship bracket at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Nicole Iosio also defeated UIC's Brion at No 4. in three sets by scores of 5-7, 6-4 and 10-8.
In doubles play, the Redbirds secured three victories as Silvia Pomarolli and Nicole Iosio defeated Tseng and Pukhina of Bradley 8-2. Nuria Sanz and Jankulovska claimed the second win of the day against Bradley's Badman/Befogliadova by an 8-4 mark. Zoe Limparis and Sophia Marie Lowe rounded out doubles competition as the pair knocked off Larrieu and Lomenzo of Eastern Illinois by an 8-4 mark.
Head coach Maja Kovacek was pleased with the performance during the first home invite "We played our best tennis on the last day of the tournament, which is encouraging. We got a lot of matches in and are learning a lot and growing as doubles teams", Kovacek said. "I'm really looking forward to the MVC Individual championship next weekend"
