BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-- Illinois State men's tennis (2-3) will host in-state foe, Northern Illinois University (NIU) (3-1) of the Mid-American Conference, on Saturday at 4:30 inside Evergreen Racquet Club.
LAST TIME OUT
Illinois State men's tennis fell (2-3) to the nationally-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-1) of the Atlantic Coast Conference 6-1 on Sunday afternoon inside Eck Tennis Pavilion.
In singles play, freshman Christian Capacci secured a win at No. 4 over Kyran Magimay of the Fighting Irish in straight-sets by scores of 7-6, 6-4.
IN THE ITA
In the latest ITA doubles polls, Tomas Valencia and Caden Scarlett ranked in the top-200 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings. Valencia and Scarlett currently sit at No. 116 with a score of 4.66.
COACHES CORNER
Head coach Mark Klysner looks forward to this weekend's match up with in-state rival Northern Illinois University.
"This should be a great match. NIU is always one of the front runners to win their conference so I expect a very hard played match. We will have to play much better doubles to start with and get that momentum going into the singles where we seem to be more comfortable at the moment. Should be a fun one!" Klysner said.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northern Illinois University (3-1) is a member of the Mid-American Conference. The Huskies most recently defeated Judson University in straight sets 7-0. This season, NIU has picked up three regular season wins over IU Indy (Horizon League), Eastern Illinois University (OVC) and the Eagles of Judson.
HITTING THE ROAD
The Birds will be on the road for three consecutive matches to open the month of February. Illinois State will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. where they will face IU Indy on Feb. 7.
Following a trip to the Hoosier State, ISU will travel to Oklahoma for a doubleheader against New Mexico State (Conference USA) and Tulsa University (American Conference) on Feb. 9.
