NORMAL, Ill.-- The Illinois State Swimming and Diving team returns home on Friday for its final home meet of the year at Horton Pool as the Redbirds host Quincy and Saint Louis (SLU) on Friday. Diving competition will begin at 11 a.m., with swimming to follow at 1 p.m.
SENIOR DAY
The Redbirds will honor eight seniors on Friday at 12:45 p.m. for their contributions to the program over their careers. The following student-athletes will be honored: fifth-year Cassidy Carey (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie HS) and seniors Emma Feltzer (Edwardsville, Mich./St. Joseph HS), Ella Glaspie (Highland, Mich./Milford HS), Lauren Hervey (Columbia, Mo./Fr. Tolton Catholic HS), Sydney Hoff (Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point Area Senior HS), Mia Snow (Omaha, Neb./Westside HS), Lauren Wisdom (Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic HS), and diver Eva Reyes (Tijuana, Mexico/ San Ysidro HS).
REDBIRDS IN THE VALLEY
Heading into 2025, Illinois State sees two swimmers sit among the top-five for the Missouri Valley Conference in their respective events. Mia Snow ranks fourth in the 100-fly clocking a time of 54.03 and Emma Feltzer sits fifth in the Valley for the 50-freestyle event with a time of 22.99.
In diving competition, Eva Reyes, Selena Corona, Emma Thompson and Isabel Poggenklass rank in the top-five on the 1-meter boards. On the 3-meter, Reyes, Corona, Thompson and Poggenklass also rank 1-4 in the Valley. Corona and Reyes also sit second and third in the category of platform diving after performances at Purdue.
ALL-TIME MEETINGS
This will be the first time ISU and Quincy will compete in NCAA competition. SLU last competed against Illinois State during the 2000-2001 season where the Redbirds outscored the Billikens 212-64 in Peoria, Ill.
LAST TIME OUT
Illinois State is coming off a long layover, as the Redbirds have not seen action since November at the Purdue Invitational, where the Redbirds recorded 32 season-bests and two lifetime best performances. The highlight of the weekend was Mia Snow setting a new school record in the 100-fly (54.03) on day two of competition.
The Redbirds also saw senior Lauren Hervey and freshman Hailey Fris set new individual lifetime bests, respectively. In the 100-free, Hervey clocked a lifetime best time of 53.11 while Fris recorded a lifetime best time of 2:04.05 in the 200-back.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (Swimming)
Quincy University is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). The Hawks come to Normal after competing last month against the University of Missouri-St Louis. Quincy was led by a second-place finish from the 200-medley relay team of Olga Pucarevic, Faith Cummings, Vanja Vrbanec and Bella Sparrow in a time of 1:53.23. Individually, Elisa Armentia Moliner took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:29.59).
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS (Diving)
St Louis University (SLU) is a member of the Atlantic-10 Conference. The Billikens last competed in November at UIndy in the House of Champions where they would place 10th. The SLU diving team was led by Lauren Van Vooren and Elizabeth Voss at the event. Van Vooren took third on the platform board (162.00) while Voss finished sixth overall (132.45).
UP NEXT
The Redbirds will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to take on Missouri Valley Conference foe UNI for a two day meet on Jan, 17 and Jan, 18. Action will begin with diving at 5 p.m. Competition will continue on Saturday at 11 a.m. inside Glen F. Henry Pool.
