NORMAL, Ill.-- The Illinois State men's tennis team (4-7) will face two road tests against Big Ten opponents in Wisconsin (4-1) and Purdue (5-0). The Redbirds face the Badgers on Wednesday inside Nielsen Tennis Stadium before traveling to Lafayette, Indiana to take on the Boilermakers at Schwartz Tennis Center.
LAST TIME OUT
The Redbirds defeated the Western Michigan Broncos (6-5) by a score of 5-2 on Sunday at Evergreen Racquet Club.
In singles play, the Redbirds received victories at No. 2 from Adrian Dibildox over WMU's Adesoro by scores of 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4. At No. 3, Tin Ostro bested Pierce 7-5, 1-6, 7-5. At No. 4, newcomer Christian Capacci secured a 7-5, 6-4 win in straight sets against Kajzer. Finally, Tom Bevan picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Antonopoulos.
In doubles play, ISU picked up wins courtesy of the No. 1 and No.3 doubles pairings. At No. 1, Tomas Valencia and Adrian Dibildox defeated Pierce and Davison of the Broncos by a 6-4 final. Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett tallied the second win of the day at No. 3 over Adesoro and Corwin by a score of 6-4.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
Wisconsin hosted the Drake Bulldogs of the Summit League on Feb. 2, where the Badgers defeated the Bulldogs, 4-0. At the No. 1 doubles position, Oliver Olsson and Tomas Zlatohlavek blanked Drake's Ben Johnson and Will Ecklund by a 6-0 score. In singles play, Michael Minasyan defeated Johnson, 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets.
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue defeated Western Michigan of the Mid-American Conference on Feb. 14 , where the Boilermakers won by a 6-1 margin. In singles play, Juan David Velasquez took Ashton Adesoro to two sets, winning by a 6-3, 6-2 mark. At the No. 1 doubles position, Aleksa Krivokapic and David Velasquez won in straight-sets against Jack Davisona and Brogan Pierce of the Broncos, 6-3 inside Schwartz Tennis Center.
