PHOENIX, AZ.-- The Illinois State men's tennis team (4-9) will travel to the Copper State where the Birds will face the Grand Canyon University Lopes (7-3) of the Western Athletic Conference on Friday, Feb. 28.
The Redbirds will then face off with St. Mary's (CA) Gaels (0-7) of the West Coast Conference on Saturday, Mar. 1.
LAST TIME OUT
The Birds dropped a road contest against No. 66 Purdue (8-1) of the Big Ten Conference by a score of 7-0 on Sunday, Feb 23, inside Schwartz Tennis Center.
In their third match against Big Ten opposition, Illinois State was swept in both singles and doubles play in the non-conference match up. The other two matches were against the Northwestern Wildcats (4-7) and Wisconsin Badgers (5-2).
SCOUTING THE LOPES
Grand Canyon University underwent a double header on Feb. 23 where the Lopes split against the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) and Pacific University. GCU was led by the No. 3 doubles pair of Matteo Lugari and Finbar McGarvey who picked up a 6-4 win over the Rebels.
SCOUTING THE GAELS
St Mary's University (CA.) dropped a 4-0 decision at UC-Irvine inside Timothy Korth Tennis Complex on Saturday, Feb. 22. The Gaels were swept in both singles and doubles play against the Big West Conference foe. After the match against Illinois State, SMU will also take on nationally-ranked Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.
