Redbirds' Daniel Records New School Records As Normal Invite Concludes

NORMAL, Ill. –  The Illinois State track & field program closed out the Normal Invite Saturday afternoon at the Redbird Track & Field Complex. 

Sophomore Immaculate Daniel set the stage after breaking the school record twice in the women's 100m dash on Saturday. Daniel broke the record in the heat races of the 100m dash after she ran a time of 11.39. Later in the meet, Daniel claimed the event win and improved on her record-breaking mark with a time of 11.33. In her first year as a Redbird, Daniel now holds the indoor 60m and outdoor 100m program records. 

In the preliminaries of the women's 100m hurdles, Junior Erin Starks and Senior Corrina Courser recorded top-10 marks. Starks ran a time of 13.64, and Courser finished with a mark of 13.69. Moments later, in the event finals, Junior Macee Rivers joined her teammates to become the third Redbird hurdler to earn a top-10 mark after she ran a time of 13.77. 

The women's 4x100m relay team of Starks, Flowers, Miller, and Daniel tallied a top-10 mark with a time of 44.87.  Their mark now sits as the fourth fastest time in Illinois State history. 

Junior Enyinnaya Nwagwu Jr. earned a top-10 mark in the men's 400m with a time of 46.82. Nwagwu's mark puts him eighth all-time, and he now holds a top-10 time in the outdoor 200m and 400m. Along with Nwagwu, Freshman Zach Paul tallied a personal best with a time of 47.82. 

In the men's 400m hurdles, Sophomore Jonathan Tegel followed his personal best time last week with an event win after he ran a time of 55.24. On the women's side, Sophomore Cambria Geyer ran a season-best time of 1:04.72.  

Senior Lindsey Miller continues to build momentum from her indoor season after she claimed the win in the women's 200m dash. Miller ran a season-best mark of 23.86. On the men's side, Freshman Reece Curtis secured the win with a personal best time of 21.34. 

Sophomore Garrett Taylor earned the win in the men's discus event after recording a throw of 54.74m (179-7). On the women's side, Freshman Brianna Brodie tallied a personal best with a throw of 42.93m (140-10) to finish third. Sophomore Adi Scott finished in fourth with a season-best mark of 42.73 (140-2). 

Taylor also secured the victory in the men's shot put with a mark of 16.32m (53-6.5). Sophomore Cole Stevens finished in third with a throw of 15.52m (50-11). Junior Jacob Rollins earned a fifth-place finish with a throw of 14.82m (48-7.5). On the women's side, Freshman Chidiogo Odeluga recorded a third-place finish with a mark of 12.34m (40-6). 

Senior Kiley Sanders won the women's javelin throw with a season-best throw of 40.32m (132-3). Senior Ariel Atias secured the win on the men's side with a throw of 55.94m (183-6). 

Sanders also finished fourth in the women's high jump with a season-best clearance at 1.71m (5-7.25). Freshman Trey Thomas finished fourth in the men's event after he cleared the bar at 1.05m (6-4.75) 

In the women's long jump, the Redbirds secured the top four spots, as Senior Athleigh Hamilton claimed the win. Hamilton recorded a mark of 5.61m on her path to the win. Freshman Laney Nelson earned a runner-up finish after tallying a season-best mark of 5.38m (17-8). Senior Sean Hopkins claimed the men's long jump with a season-best jump of 7.03m (23-0.75). 

Sophomore Alice Sotelo made her first outdoor appearance as a Redbird in the women's triple jump. Sotelo finished in fourth place with a jump of 11.06m (36-3.5). On the men's side, Junior Rob Pulliam finished in third with a jump of 14.86m (48-9). Freshman Victor Byaundaombe earned a fourth-place finish with a season-best jump of 14.52m (47-7.75). 

In the women's pole vault, Junior Karlie Stauder and Junior Reece Davis finished third in fourth with season-best marks of 3.60m (11-9.75) and 3.45m (11-3.75). On the men's side, Junior Charles Cruse finished runner-up with a clearance at 5.17m (16-11.50). 

Freshman Blake Oleson ran a time of 3:55.15, a personal best, to finish fourth in the men's 1500m. Senior Ian Geisler followed Oleson and finished fifth after crossing the line with a time of 3:55.31. 

In the men's 800m, Junior Garrett Slack returned to the track for the first time since January and ran a time of 1:53.88 to finish third. Freshman Luke Barham ran a season-best time of 1:55.53 to finish fourth. 

Freshman Will Gelon earned a second-place finish in his first appearance in the men's 3000m steeplechase after he ran a time of 9:32.95. 

Senior Kevyere Mack finished second in the men's 110m hurdles after running a time of 15.02.  

Freshman Harmony Brown recorded a season-best time of 58.69 in the women's 400m in a ninth-place effort.
