Redbirds Close Out Day Three Of NCAA West First Round Thursday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Illinois State track & field program wrapped up day three at the NCAA West First Round Thursday evening.

Illinois State had five athletes represent the Redbirds in College Station on Thursday.

Freshman Victor Byaundaombe opened the day for the Redbirds in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.94 (49-1). Byaundaombe's effort fell short of qualifying for the national title meet, but the 2025 MVC Outdoor Triple Jump Champion will prepare for the 2025 U20 USATF Outdoor Championships, which begin on June 19.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Zach Paul, Enyinnaya Nwagwu Jr., Jake Welch, and Evan Watson ran a time of 3:07.67 to close out the season. Their season comes to an end after they recorded the second-fastest time in Redbird history less than two weeks ago at the 2025 MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

On Saturday, Senior Corrina Courser will attempt to punch her ticket to Eugene in the women's 100m hurdles, which begins at 6:15 p.m. Courser, the sole representative of the Redbirds, will run in heat 3.
