NORMAL, Ill. – It will be a double match weekend for the Illinois State women's tennis team, as the Redbirds head to Western Michigan for a Friday match, before returning home on Sunday to host Butler at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington.
First serve on Friday against the Broncos is at 10:30 a.m. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and things will get started on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against the Bulldogs.
SCOUTING THE REDBIRDS
• The Redbirds (0-1) took Purdue to the limit in the dual-meet opener last Sunday, as the Redbirds took an early lead, but the Boilermakers rallied to come away with the 4-3 at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
• Illinois State's No. 1 doubles tandem of Lana Caculovic and Silvia Pomarolli opened the dual meet season with a big win over the Boilermakers and for their efforts, the duo was named the Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week.
• Caculovic and Pomarolli earned a 6-3 victory to help the Redbirds secure the early doubles point against Purdue. That point would prove very important, as the Redbirds went to the last match in singles tied before falling to Purdue by a final of 4-3 on the road in a tough matchup to open the spring season.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
• Western Michigan (1-1) returns home to host Illinois State and Grand Valley State in a double-header on Friday at West Hills Athletic Club beginning at 10:30 a.m.
• The Broncos opened the spring season splitting matches, after defeating Chicago State 7-0 at home and then head falling to Notre Dame by the same score.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
• Butler (1-1) split a pair of matches last weekend to open the spring slate, dropping a 7-0 decision to Purdue on Saturday before earning a 6-1 win over Marian on Sunday.
• The Bulldogs won the doubles point with wins on courts 1 and 3, and then in singles play they won five of the six singles matches. On court one, Chase Metcalf defeated Yasmin Imamniyazova by a score of 7-6, 6-0 and on court two, Brooke Arington defeated Michelle Irigoyen by a final of 6-2, 6-1.
