BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – A Friday night showdown between in-state foes Illinois State and UIC ended up with Flames getting hot and sweeping the Redbirds, 4-0, inside the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington.
UIC took the early lead by winning the doubles point, with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The duo of Christian Capacci and Finn Logue picked up the lone match win on the night for the Redbirds, earning a 6-4 victory at the No. 4 spot over UIC's Mihailo Savic and Emil Dapcevic.
As the action moved to the singles matches, the Flames secured wins at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 spots to secure the match victory. The remaining three singles matches were left unfinished, with Tomas Valencia (No. 1), Tin Ostro (No. 4) and Jett Leong (No. 5) each leading in the third set when things were halted.
The Redbirds are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 1, when they host Saint Louis at the Evergreen Racquet Club at 4:30 p.m.
