Redbirds Pick Up First Victory Of Spring Season With 4-0 Sweep Of Saint Louis

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – In the second match of a busy day at the Evergreen Racquet Club between Illinois State and Saint Louis on Sunday, the Illinois State men's tennis team picked up its first dual match win over Saint Louis by a score of 4-0.

The Redbirds took the early lead by winning the doubles point, thanks to wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. The No. 2 duo of Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett rolled to a 6-1 win over Saint Louis' Fabian Garvik and Luca Lo Nardo. The No. 3 tandem of Jett Leong and Finn Logue then picked up a 6-2 victory over Andres Castellanos and Riki Koshimizu to wrap up the first point of the match for the Redbirds.

In singles action, the Redbirds picked up wins at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 spots to secure the 4-0 sweep over the Billikens. At the No.1 spot Tomas Valencia made quick work of Sacha Lefebure to earn a 6-1, 6-1 win for the second point of the match. Logue then defeated John Varley by a final of 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot to make it 3-0 in favor of ISU, before Ostro closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Adrien Ducruet to secure the sweep for the Redbirds.

The Redbirds are back in action on Friday, February 6, for a return match against Saint Louis on the road with first serve set for 1:30 p.m.
