Redbirds Roll To 4-1 Win Over Saint Louis

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – In the first match of a women's/men's tennis doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, the Illinois State women's tennis team rolled to a 4-1 win over Saint Louis at the Evergreen Racquet Club to even its spring record to 2-2.

The Redbirds picked up the win in doubles, with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. The No. 2 tandem of Nuria Sanz and Nicole Iosio blanked the Saint Louis duo of Madison Hill and Ellie Choate by a score of 6-0 to take the early advantage. The No. 3 pairing of Emma Lindh and Vittoria Benedetti also picked up a victory in relatively easy fashion over SLU's Fiorella Duran and Ella McLeod, 6-2, to earn the doubles point.

In singles action, Silvia Pomarolli picked up a win at the No. 2 spot with a quick 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Duran to give the Redbirds their second point of the match. A quick 6-0, 6-1 win by Iosio at the No. 4 spot then gave ISU its third point, before her doubles partner Sans defeated McLeod by a score of 6-2, 6-0 to secure the team victory over the Redbirds over the Billikens.

Illinois State is back in action on Saturday, February 7, for a noon match against Milwaukee, before heading to Chicago on Sunday for a morning match against Chicago State.
