MILWAUKEE – Illinois State got off to a good start by taking the doubles point on the road at Marquette, however the hosts would rally to win four of six singles matches to pick up a 4-2 win over the Redbirds on Wednesday afternoon in Milwaukee.
The Redbirds continued to play strong doubles, winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to record the first point of the match. The No. 2 tandem of Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett picked up a 6-3 win over Marquette's Luke Coppage and Hugh Perrill to tie things at 1-1, before the No. 3 team of Jett Leong and Finn Logue defeated Kristian Blagoev and Evan Glebov by a score of 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for ISU.
In singles action, Scarlett was the lone winner for the Redbirds as he cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 4 spot over Marquette's Remi St. Laurent. The Golden Eagles would pick up hard-fought three-set wins over the Redbirds at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots and earned points at the No. 3 and No. 6 spots to secure the win.
The Redbirds return to the courts on Saturday in Evanston, as the head to take on Big Ten Conference in-state foe Northwestern with first serve set for 4 p.m.Â
