EVANSTON, Ill. – Illinois State had a big challenge in front of it on Saturday, as the Redbirds traveled to Evanston to take on Big Ten Conference in-state foe Northwestern in a head-to-head matchup at the Combe Tennis Center. The Wildcats took an early lead and never looked back, as they defeated the Redbirds 4-0 in non-conference action.
Northwestern won the doubles point to open the match, with wins at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots. The Wildcats then picked up singles wins at the No. 6, No. 5 and No. 1 spots to secure the sweep over the Redbirds.
Illinois State will head to the East Coast for a trio of matches next weekend, when they take on Quinnipiac (Friday), Wagner (Saturday) and St. Joseph's (Sunday).
