NORMAL, Ill. – Coming off a long layoff due to the cancellation of a match with Missouri last weekend, Illinois State returns to action for the first time in 10 days when it hosts Butler on Wednesday at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington. The match, which was originally scheduled for January 25 but was postponed due to inclement weather, will begin at 12:30 p.m.
SCOUTING THE REDBIRDS
• Illinois State (4-2) heads into the match as winners of four straight, most recently picking up wins on the road over Milwaukee (Feb. 7) and Chicago State (Feb. 8).
• Senior Silvia Pomarolli went 2-0 at the No. 2 singles spot for the Redbirds, with wins at Milwaukee and Chicago State. Against Milwaukee, Pomarolli defeated Nadiia Konieva in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 to help the Redbirds pick up their first win of the weekend. She then followed that up with another three-set win over Chicago State's Camila Sanchez 6-4, 2-6, 10-6.
• Pomarolli has now won five-straight singles matches to improve to 6-1 head-to-head this spring.
• ISU's No. 1 doubles tandem of Lana Caculovic and Pomarolli were instrumental in the Redbirds extending their winning streak to four in a row. The duo were the deciding doubles match against Milwaukee, as their tiebreaker win over Emilia Durska and Nel Van Hout secured the doubles point for the Redbirds in a 5-2 win. They are now 3-1 this spring at the top doubles spot for the Redbirds.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
• Butler (3-7) comes into the Illinois State match having lost three-straight to Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Miami (Ohio).
• In Butler's last match against Miami, Sophie Parr secured the lone point for BU with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot in a 6-1 defeat to the RedHawks.
• The last win for the Bulldogs came on Feb. 4, when they defeated in-state foe Indianapolis by a score of 5-2. They also have wins over Bradley and Marian during the spring campaign.
