NORTH HAVEN, Conn. – The Illinois State men's tennis team headed to the East Coast for a trio of weekend matches, with Friday's contest against Quinnipiac the first on the docket for the Redbirds. It was a close match, but the Bobcats (1-4) rallied to pick up the win over the Redbirds (3-5) by a final of 4-3.
The Redbirds took the early lead in the match, winning the doubles point thanks to wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The top doubles tandem of Adrian Dibildox and Christian Capacci earned a 6-3 win over Carlos Braun Simo and Alessandro Sciacca and the No. 2 duo of Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett defeated Finn Burridge and Vishal Prakash, 6-2, to secure the crucial doubles point.
However, the Bobcats would rally to win four of six singles matches to secure the 4-3 win at home. ISU picked up a win at the No. 2 spot courtesy of Capacci, who defeated Burridge in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. The other singles victory for the Redbirds came at the No. 3 spot, where Ostro rallied to defeat Prakash in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Quinnipiac won in straight sets at the No. 1 and No. 4 spots, but needed three-set tiebreakers at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots to secure the win.
Illinois State continues its East Coast weekend trip on Saturday, when they take on Wagner before wrapping up the weekend on Sunday against St. Joseph's.
