Redbirds Hit The Road For Matches At Saint Louis & Chicago State

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team returns to action this weekend for a pair of road matches against a pair of familiar foes in Saint Louis on Friday and Chicago State on Sunday. First serve on Friday is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., and Sunday's match is set for Noon following the Redbird women's tennis team match against Chicago State.

SCOUTING THE REDBIRDS
•    For the second time in less than a week, the Redbirds (1-2) will face off against the Billikens when they travel to O'Fallon for a match on Friday at the St. Clair Tennis Club. The Redbirds won the previous match against Saint Louis last Sunday, 4-0, at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington.
•    The Redbirds took the early lead by winning the doubles point against SLU, thanks to wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. The No. 2 duo of Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett rolled to a 6-1 win and the No. 3 tandem of Jett Leong and Finn Logue then picked up a 6-2 victory
•    In singles action, the Redbirds picked up wins at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 spots to secure the 4-0 sweep over the Billikens. Tomas Valencia, Logue and Ostro secured wins to clinch the sweep for the Redbirds.

SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS
•    Saint Louis (0-4) is still looking for its first dual win of the season, after opening with three tough matches in Oklahoma against Texas Rio Grande Valley, Oral Roberts and Oklahoma State and dropping last week's match to the Redbirds.
•    The Billikens will follow Friday's match with the Redbirds with a contest against crosstown foe UMSL on Saturday, with first serve set for 4 p.m.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
•    The Cougars (0-5) are still looking for their first win of the spring and are coming off a 7-0 defeat by Northwestern last Sunday in Evanston. Chicago State has been blanked in four of its five matches this spring, with shutouts by Wisconsin, Louisville, UIC and Northwestern.
•    CSU was selected ninth in the 2026 NEC Conference Men's Tennis Preseason Poll.
