Redbirds Defeat Saint Louis For Second Time In A Week, Win 4-3

ST. LOUIS – For the second time in less than a week, Illinois State (2-2) defeated Saint Louis (0-4) on the tennis court this time in St. Louis as the Redbirds picked up a 4-3 win over the Billikens at St. Clair Tennis.

After not scoring a team point against the Redbirds last Sunday in a 4-0 defeat, Saint Louis took the early lead in the match by winning the doubles point, with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The Redbird duo of Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett were able to get a win against the team of Fabian Garvik and Riki Koshimizu by a score of 6-3 at the No. 2 spot to avoid the doubles sweep.

As the action moved to singles, the Redbirds were able to get wins in four of the six matches to secure the win over the Billikens. At No. 1, Tomas Valencia took down Sacha Lefebure by a final of 6-1, 6-4 and at the No. 3 spot, Christian Capacci battled with Adrien Ducruet in an extremely close three-set thriller to get a win 7-6 (1), 6-7 (7), 6-2. Ostro defeated Luca Lo Nardo by a score of 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot and Scarlett pulled out a three-set victory of his own at the No. 6 spot over Garvik 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The Redbirds are back in action on Sunday for a noon match against Chicago State in the Windy City.
