CHICAGO – In the second match of a women's/men's tennis doubleheader in Chicago on Sunday, the Illinois State men's tennis team (3-2) won their third-straight match and followed the women's tennis team's victory this morning with a 6-1 victory of their own over Chicago State in the Windy City.
Illinois State picked up the doubles win, with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. The No. 3 duo of Christian Capacci and Finn Logue blanked Chicago State's Justin Atkins and Chad Valdes by a score of 6-0 for the first win of the match. The No. 2 team of Tin Ostro and Caden Scarlett then rolled to a 6-3 win over Yurii Hoida and Reed Gahagan to secure the doubles point.
In singles action, the Redbirds picked up wins in five of six matches to pick up their third-straight win. At the No. 1 spot, Tomas Valencia took down Hoida by a final of 6-4, 6-4 and Adrian Dibildox battled his way to a three-set win over Valdes at the No. 2 spot. Capacci earned a straight-set win over Andrew Kunaka 6-3, 7-5, on court No. 3 and the Redbirds closed things out with wins on courts No. 5 and 6 with wins by Jett Leong and Scarlett.
The Redbirds return to the court on Wednesday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, when they take on Marquette at 1:30 p.m. CT. It will be the first of two matches on the week for the Redbirds, who also travel to Evanston on Saturday for a match with Northwestern.
