Redbirds Win Fourth Straight With 6-1 Victory Over Chicago State

CHICAGO – The wins just keep coming for the Illinois State women's tennis team, as the Redbirds (4-2) won their fourth-straight match after defeating Chicago State on Sunday morning in Chicago.

The Redbirds earned the doubled point, thanks to wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. The duo of Sophie Marie Lowe and Vittoria Benedetti rolled to a 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot, before Nuria Sanz and Nicole Iosio clinched the first point of the match for ISU with a 6-2 win over Chicago State's Mackenzie King and Nikita Liyanage. 

As the action moved to singles, the Redbirds secured wins on courts 2-5 to come away with the 6-1 victory as the Cougars earned their lone point of the day in singles at the No. 1 spot. Benedetti defeated King 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot and Iosio picked up a win over Liyanage by a final of 6-1, 6-2 on court No. 4. Sanz also rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 spot against Danina Hughes (CSU) and Emma Lindh earned a win over Nadjema Morille 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6. The closest match of the singles session came at the No. 2 spot, as Silvia Pomarolli went to three sets with Camila Sanchez, eventually winning the third set 10-6 in a tiebreaker to close out the win.

The Redbirds return home next Sunday, February 15, when they host a doubleheader at the Evergreen Racquet Club against Missouri. First serve for the first match of the day is set for 12:30 p.m., with the second match set to being at approximately 4 p.m.
