NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State got off to a good start at the Redbird Duals on Saturday, as the Redbirds won three of four doubles matches and a total of seven singles match on the first day of action at the Gregory Street Courts.
In doubles action, the team of Nicole Iosio and Molly Carlberg defeated Bradley's Jada Iverson and Amber Sharp by a final of 6-1 while the duo of Emma Lindh and Ella McLeod also picked up a win over Bradley, defeating Denver Johnson and Ruby Tseng, 6-3. The other doubles win came from Sophie Marie Lowe and Anna Houpt over Butler's Hailey Poplin and Laurel Sletcher by a final of 6-4.
In singles action, Emma Peretti went 2-0 on the day, with a three-set tiebreaker win over Sienna Miles from Butler and a straight-set win over Bryn Steven of Valparaiso by a final of 6-3, 6-4. In the first round of singles, Carlberg and Lindh were both able to pick up straight-set wins over opponents from Butler and in the second round, Nicole Iosio and Vittoria Benedetti got in the win column with wins against Valpo.
The teams will be back in action on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. with two rounds of doubles, followed by one round of singles matches to end the day.
