NORMAL, Ill. - Senior Yvonne Northover, a midfielder on the Illinois State women's soccer team, was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Third-Team All-Great Lakes Region selection. It was the first such honor of Northover's career and the first award for a Redbird in three years. She was the only Missouri Valley Conference player selected to any team.
Northover was the Valley Player of the Year, a First-Team All-Valley selection and a member of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament team in 2007. She led the Redbirds in points (23) and assists (7) and ranked second in goals (8). Her assist total is tied for the Illinois State record and she also ranks fourth in points on the single-season list. She led the Valley in goals (5) and points (11) in conference play. Northover scored five game-winning goals, the second-most in school history, and had a point in every Redbird win while leading the team to the Valley regular season title and the conference tournament championship game. The Calgary, Alberta native was the only two-time recipient of the Brine Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week award last season.
Northover became the ninth recipient of an NSCAA all-region accolade and the first since Heather Forsyth was named to the third team in 2004. Of the nine ISU selections, two have been named to the second team and seven to the third team.
