NORMAL, Ill. - Senior midfielder Yvonne Northover was named to the Soccer Buzz Great Lakes Region Third Team on Friday, Dec. 21. She became the first Redbird to received the honor in two years. The collegiate soccer publication recognized players from six different regions of the country and presented national awards as well.
Northover added the Soccer Buzz award to the long list of accomplishments she achieved in 2007. Earlier this week, she was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Great Lakes Region Third Team. Northover was the Valley Player of the Year, a First-Team All-Valley selection and a member of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament team as well this past season.
She led the Redbirds in points (23) and assists (7) and ranked second in goals (8). Her assist total is tied for the Illinois State record and she also ranks fourth in points on the single-season list. She led the Valley in goals (5) and points (11) in conference play. Northover scored five game-winning goals, the second-most in school history, and had a point in every Redbird win while leading the team to the Valley regular season title and the conference tournament championship game. The Calgary, Alberta native was the only two-time recipient of the Brine Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week award last season.
Northover became the 11th Illinois State recipient of a Soccer Buzz regional accolade and the first since Heather Forsyth was named to the second team in 2005. Forsyth was the Valley Player of the Year that season as well.
