NORMAL, Ill. - Junior forward Mel Routledge was named the first Brine Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the 2007 season on September 4. Routledge garnered her first-career honor after collecting seven points on three goals and an assist in the opening weekend.
Routledge has been the offensive catalyst for the Redbirds through the first two games. She had the first two-goal game of her career in ISU's season-opening shutout of UW-Green Bay on Friday, August 31. The Calgary, Alberta native took 11 shots in that game, the second-highest total in ISU history. She followed that performance with a goal and an assist as the Redbirds beat Valparaiso, 2-1, on Sunday, September 2. She leads the Valley in points and goals. Routledge moved into fourth place in school history in points (33), fifth place in goals (13) and ninth place in assists (seven).
"Mel is a very dynamic player for us," said head coach Drew Roff. "She has the technical ability to hold the ball up top as well as the speed to get in behind defenses. She is off to a great start and is playing with an edge that all good goal scorers must have. She gets after it."
The Redbirds host Central Michigan on Friday, September 7, at 3:30 p.m.
