Reiber Earns Second Brine/MVC Defensive Player of the Week Award

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State soccer freshman Sasha Reiber was named the Brine/Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday, Oct. 28. Reiber earned the second Valley honor of her career after helping the Redbirds to a 2-0 win over Missouri State Oct. 4.

Reiber made four saves to record her fifth shutout of the season. Reiber has started eight game this season, posting six wins and five shutouts. Her five shutouts are tied for the sixth-most in ISU single-season history and tied for third-most in the Missouri Valley Conference this season.

"Sasha played very well against Missouri State and it is nice to see her recognized for the second time this year as the Valley's defensive player of the week," said ISU head coach Drew Roff. "She did a very nice job of eliminating scoring chances by reading the play and making good decisions. She also made the two or three big saves that we needed her to make to preserve the shutout. Sasha being recognized is not only a reflection of her play but also the play of our forwards, midfielders, and backs who really made it tough for Missouri State to threaten our goal very often."

Reiber's award is the third bestowed upon an ISU goalkeeper this season. Junior Katie Grill-Donovan earned the Brine/MVC Defensive Player of the Week award Sept. 2.

ISU hosts Eastern Illinois in its final home game of 2008 Wednesday at 3 p.m.
