NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State (5-6-1, 0-1-0 MVC) heads to Creighton (8-3-0, 1-0-0 MVC) Saturday afternoon in search of its first conference win. The game is a rematch of the 2007 State Farm MVC Tournament final and will be played at Morrison Stadium, the site of the 2008 State Farm MVC Tournament.
"We have a great challenge in front of us this weekend," said head coach Drew Roff. "We didn't start off the conference season the way we planned and we will try to bounce back with a strong performance at Creighton. The two times we have played them since I have been here have been very close, hard fought matches and I expect this to be no different."
The Redbirds and Bluejays met twice last season, once in the regular season and once in the MVC Tournament. ISU won the regular season matchup at home, 2-1, courtesy of two goals by Yvonne Northover. The two teams met again in the final of the MVC Tournament, playing to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes. Creighton then advanced to the NCAA Tournament by winning a shootout, 4-3. ISU still leads the all-time series, 8-5-3, with all three ties coming in the last six meetings.
Junior Ammanda Wisniewski is second on the Redbirds with eight points, but she is collecting them in a different way than ever before. Wisniewski has ranked in the top-three in points in each of her first two seasons as a Redbird, but she did it by scoring five goals each year. This season, Wisniewski has scored two goals and added a career-high four assists. She is tied for the lead in the MVC in assists and has multiple assists for the first time in her career.
