NORMAL, Ill. - Youth soccer players in central Illinois have the opportunity to learn soccer the Redbird way this summer at any of four Redbird Soccer Camps. Illinois State head coach Drew Roff and his staff of collegiate coaches and players are back for their second summer in Normal to offer soccer instruction. The Redbird Soccer Day Camp offers two sessions, June 16-19 and June 23-26. The Drew Roff Redbird Soccer Camp For Girls will run July 19-23 and July 23-27.
The Redbird Soccer Day Camp is open for boys and girls, ages 6 to 13, and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp is designed to teach youth players valuable soccer skills and build self confidence in a fun and challenging environment. Campers receive two hours of technical instruction in the morning and compete in games in the afternoon. During the lunch break, campers will have the opportunity to swim in the ISU swimming pool.
The camp registration fee is $170 if completed by May 15 and $190 after that. All campers receive a camp t-shirt and are required to bring cleats, shin guards, a soccer ball, sun block, tennis shoes, a bathing suit, rain gear and a bag lunch.
The Drew Roff Redbird Soccer Camp For Girls is a residential camp open to all girls, ages 13 to 18. This camp offers players the opportunity to raise their game to a higher level by putting them in an environment that is competitive and challenging for each and every player. Each training session will focus on improving the players' soccer sense through technical repetition, tactical instruction and competition. There will also be specialized training and instruction for goalkeepers during each session.
Roff serves as the camp director and is joined by Illinois State assistant coach Shaunna Daugherty, who serves as the camp's goalkeeping instructor, and featured camp coach Brian Borde, who has served as a coach for the Region II Girls Olympic Development Program (ODP) for the last 23 years.
Camp registration costs $455 for residential participants, which includes room and board, and $385 for commuters. Teams of eight or more may sign up together and receive a $25 discount on each participant. Each camper will receive a Nike t-shirt and soccer ball.
A licensed ISU athletic trainer will be available during all camp sessions and a medical history form is required for all campers.
