NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head women's soccer coach Drew Roff has announced the addition of two walk-ons to the Redbird roster for 2008. Katrina Jakobsze and Jacque Toth have both signed on to play soccer at Illinois State and both will be freshmen in the 2008 season. They join seven other Redbird freshmen and will combine with the 14 returning players to give the `Birds a 23-player roster in 2008.
Head coach Drew Roff is excited to have the two latest players in his recruiting class and feels that both have the versatility and all-around skill to play either midfield or back in the Redbird system.
"I am very pleased with the addition of Katrina and Jacque to our 2008 recruiting class," said Roff. "They both bring the athleticism and versatility necessary to provide us with quality depth either in the midfield or in the back. They also both come from very strong club soccer backgrounds that have prepared them for our training environment which will be very competitive."
Jakobsze played her scholastic soccer at William Fremd High School in Palatine, Ill. She has helped the Vikings, a regional qualifier last season, to a 6-0 record to start this spring. Jakobsze plays club soccer for Eclipse Select, the same elite program that current Redbirds Brenna Bohl, Bethany Brown, Jessica Kaiz, Nicole Russell and Ammanda Wisniewski played for.
Toth was a four-year member of the Brownsburg varsity team. A two-time all-state selection, Toth was team captain and MVP as a senior. She also was the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association Top-Team Player and an all-county honoree. The Brownsburg High School pole vault record holder, Toth was a three-time all-county and all-regional honoree. As a junior, she won a sectional title and reached the state finals in the pole vault. She plays club soccer with the Carmel United Soccer Club.
