Rattray: Spring Soccer Prep Urban Teaching on Her Mind

Want to know what your favorite Illinois State student-athletes are really thinking, both on-and-off the court? How about what is their favorite thing to do in their spare time, or who is their funniest teammate or what is on their mind as they go through a practice or game? Well, look no further, as GoRedbirds.com and Redbird All-Access have you covered with a new video feature series that will give Redbird student-athletes a chance to talk and speak their minds on a weekly basis.

Up this week is junior midfielder Raquel Rattray of the Illinois State women's soccer team.

Junior midfielder Raquel Rattray came to Illinois State in the fall 2006 armed with a boatload of high school and club team honors and with a prevailing wisdom among Redbird soccer followers that she would be a star on a talented ISU women's soccer team.

Nearly three years later, it's beginning to look like Rattray will not dissapoint. The two-time All-Valley First-Team honoree leads one of the most talented Redbird soccer teams in recent memory, a squad that has won two-straight Missouri Valley Conference regular-season titles and has been on the cusp of making an NCAA Tournament appearance in each of the last two seasons.

Along the way, Rattray has contributed in the clutch for Illinois State, as she scored game-winning goals last season against Loyola and Butler, while also contributing to a Redbird defense in 2008 that posted a 1.03 goals against average and seven shutouts.

Rattray and the Illinois State women's soccer team are currently participating in spring drills in preparation for the Redbirds' fall 2009 season.
