NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State head women's soccer coach Drew Roff added a new face to the soccer coaching staff Tuesday as he announced the hiring of Kellie Evans as assistant coach. Evans brings extensive coaching and playing experience with her to Illinois State.
"Kellie has played and coached at a high level of Division I soccer," said Roff. "We are very excited to be able to add her to our coaching staff. Her experience, knowledge and enthusiasm are really going to be a great asset for our program."
Most recently, Evans held the assistant coach position at Nichols School in Buffalo, N.Y. Prior to Nichols, Evans spent two years as the assistant coach at NCAA Division I member Oregon State.
Before her time at Oregon State, Evans was a volunteer assistant coach at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala., in 2006 and an assistant coach at Durant High School in Plant City, Fla., in 2006-07.
Prior to coaching, Evans was a standout soccer player at Auburn from 2000-03, where she led the Tigers to three NCAA Tournaments and the 2002 Southeastern Conference championship. Evans set the school record for assists in a season with13 in 2000 and ranks second in school history in career assists with 30. Evans also was an Academic All-SEC selection and SEC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll member.
Evans thanked Roff and the athletic department for the opportunity to join the Redbird family.
"Through the process, I have been extremely impressed by the department's commitment to the program as well as to the success of the student-athletes," said Evans. "Drew is a proven leader who has a clear vision for the program, and I am excited to work with him and Dee Nocero (graduate assistant coach) to help make that vision a reality." Evans replaces Shaunna Daugherty, and along with Roff, she will focus on goalkeeping as well as assist with other field positions.
