NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State soccer team fell, 2-1, to in-state rival DePaul Sunday afternoon at Adelaide Street Field. The Redbirds controlled the game for much of the second half, but a pair of early goals lifted the Blue Demons to the win.
ISU got its lone goal of the contest when freshman Anna Stinson found the back of the net on a free kick service from sophomore Kristin Cooley. Illinois State had a few chances late, but could not find the equalizer.
"We got off to a slow start giving up those early goals," said head coach Drew Roff. "We had a couple of defensive breakdowns and they took advantage. After giving up the second goal, I thought we settled down and controlled the ball well in the second half. Hopefully we can learn from this and finish our spring season strong on Friday."
The Redbirds will return to the pitch for their final game of their spring slate when they host in-state rival Illinois. Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Adelaide Street Field.
